Lands of Lore - an online telnet based multiplayer game

About

As quoted from http://mud.dcc.online.pt/:

Lands of Lore is a MUD, which stands for multi-user dungeon. Typically a MUD is a text based game played by telnet. Our game, along with many others, has color support, which makes it friendlier to play. Some of the most important features on our game:

  • Number of classes: 14.
  • Number of races: 20+.
  • Quests: More than 30 available.
  • Battling between players: Yes.
  • Player kill: Configurable.
  • Maximum level: 500. There is 501 for Legends.

Of course, there is a lot more to it.

Technical Information

The game is programmed in C, composed of 47 files, with well organized and distributed amongst the files. Currently, a light, clean version of this mud takes about 50 MB. Pretty heavy for a telnet based game. :-)

My contribute

I started playing Lands of Lore back in early 2002, and I got extremelly addicted. The type of game wasn't totally new to me, I had played many games of the same kind, but this one was online, and that made the game a whole lot more interesting and addictive. I started playing day and night, and got very interested about the dynamics of the game. Not long after, I got promoted to immortal, so I could program things, fix bugs, etc.

Unfortunatly, due to technical reasons (hardware complications) the game lost a lot of it's player base, and is pretty much dead now. The server is still up, however.
